Welcome to the website for Mr. Blanchard's Advanced Placement United States History (APUSH) course at Martin High School in Arlington, TX. APUSH is a college-level survey course that introduces students to the political, social, economic, and cultural history of the United States. The course is divided into two semesters. The first semester consists of material from Pre-Columbian Native Americans through the Civil War and Reconstruction, while the second semester covers major historical eras from Western Expansion to the Obama Administration. Using a college-level textbook, primary-source documents, and additional materials, students will be encouraged to move beyond the basic memorization of facts and utilize higher level thinking skills to further their knowledge and understanding of our nation’s history. Additionally, the ultimate goal is to prepare for the AP Exam in the spring and potentially earn college credit. All students who submit scores of 3 or higher on AP Exams will be awarded credit at all Texas public colleges (HB 1992).
